Rediscovering my Creative Side

Every day, the news around technology just gets worse. I'd avoid it entirely if I could, but I can't. Working in the industry means having to have some idea about what's happening. And I can't say I like it much.

This isn't a sudden thing. It's very much something that's been building for years. I no longer find any joy in my day job managing and deploying endpoints at scale. And that's a real shame because I used to enjoy the challenges that it introduced every day.
Maybe it's just that I don't get to concentrate on it to enjoy it any more. In the last year, I've spent very little time on actually managing Jamf and Intune. A lot of it has actually been spent on implementing ServiceNow. The small team covers so many aspects, it's just impossible to keep up any more.

Anyway, that complete disconnect from technology has really resulted in me attempting to rediscover my more creative side over the last couple of years. I'll do just about anything to not stare at the computer all weekend. Although there is some gaming occasionally.

One thing I've started to do again is miniature painting. Mainly Warhammer 40,000 models so far, although I'm not going to limit the hobby to that as my skills return/improve. It's also a great chance to regain some control over my shaky hands (stress & anxiety related).

The latest one that I've been working on is a Tau Fire Warrior Breacher team with a custom colour palette. Here's the test one so far:

I'm really quite pleased with how it's progressing, and there are only some minor tweaks I've made since taking these pictures (months ago). I only get a couple of hours every other weekend or so to work on them right now, so things aren't exactly progressing quickly. But that will change. I've just finished a training course which was taking up a lot of my spare time.

And, for some random reason, today I decided to buy myself a one-year subscription to the White Dwarf magazine. Haven't read one of these things in over 25 years.

Other than that, I'm also thoroughly enjoying Ironsworn Sundered Isles. Which has re-awoken a random dream of one day writing a novel. Likely never to see the light of day. But it has resulted in some flash fiction around the world that was created, and the re-reading of some short stories I wrote many, many years ago.
